Proportion and Architecture
From the very beginning Architecture and proportion have been closely intertwined. For Auguste Rodin, proportion was the synthesis of all the arts. In all the major civilizations religious architecture has always been appreciated as an intrument of divine vereration while proportion in its perfection was somehow godly. Proportion in its architectural expression opens our eyes to the creative "old ways of seeing". Today, by means of the computer, the relationship between architecture and proportion can be regained. The image of architectural proportion in our perception makes it more available to our short-term memory. It can become more easily embedded in our aesthetic experience and enhances our memory of the old truths. In this intangible sens, architecture in proportion contributes to our welfare and survival.
